Job DescriptionTo perform, direct, and inspect trades work for physical plant, maintenance reserve, and capital outlay construction projects and ensure contracted and in-house maintenance and construction work is performed to plans, specifications, safety standards, VDOT policies and procedures, building codes, and industry standards.How You Will ContributeContract Administration and Oversight: Administer and oversee work performed by facilities contractors to ensure contractual requirements are met.Documentation: Prepare necessary paperwork to document in‑house and contractor work, including photo documentation, project listings, scopes of work, and estimates. Submit required paperwork for payments, invoices, and bills and maintain project files, records, and drawings of facilities and equipment.Emergency Operations: Perform unscheduled or emergency repairs to facilities structures and equipment.Hands‑on Facilities Work: Complete work orders and tasks related to construction, maintenance, repair, and renovation of facilities structures and equipment, ensuring compliance with plans, specifications, shop drawings, industry standards, and applicable codes and regulations. Maintain supplies and tools.Permits and Work Orders: Obtain required permits through VDOT's annual building permit procedure and issue work orders to appropriate contractors or staff.Preventive Maintenance: Inspect and document existing conditions of buildings and equipment to determine the nature and extent of physical plant repairs needed, perform preventive maintenance, and make recommendations for future requirements and budget estimates.What Will Make You SuccessfulExcellent oral and written communication skills to provide guidance to staff, vendors, and contractors.Ability to estimate quantities and costs and prepare daily documentation and reports related to project activities.Ability to follow and apply fiscal and procurement guidelines to procure goods and services and pay invoices.Capacity to handle multiple tasks concurrently, prioritizing and completing them in a potentially stressful environment.Project management and contract administration skills related to facilities operations.Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, blueprints, building and fire codes.Considerable knowledge of building trades and construction such as electrical, plumbing, HVAC, carpentry, and masonry.Skill in using a variety of hand and power tools and diagnostic equipment used in building trades.Proficiency with computers, software applications, and digital cameras.Minimum QualificationsStrong oral and written communication skills.Experience estimating quantities and costs and preparing daily documentation and reports.Ability to manage multiple concurrent tasks under stress.Project management and contract administration experience in facilities operations.Physical ability to perform demanding labor in extreme heat and cold, lift up to 50 lbs., climb ladders, and work on uneven ground.Proficiency reading and interpreting engineering drawings, specifications, blueprints, building and fire codes.Solid knowledge of building trades and construction (e.g., electrical, plumbing, HVAC, carpentry, masonry, roofing).Skilled use of hand and power tools and diagnostic equipment used in building trades.Computer, software, and digital camera proficiency.Valid driver's license.Additional ConsiderationsSoils and Erosion Inspector certification.Training, experience, or education in HVAC, plumbing, electrical, or related field desired.DHCD license in building, plumbing, HVAC, or electrical inspection.DPOR trades certifications in HVAC, electrical or plumbing.Experience in building construction as project inspector, superintendent or project manager.Experience with outsourcing approach to facilities management.Pre‑employment Screening RequirementsFingerprint‑based criminal history background check.DMV record check.Work history verification.References.Pre‑employment physical.Drug screen.Equal Opportunity EmployerEqual Opportunity Employer.#J-18808-Ljbffr
