Job Description: Tidewater Community College has served South Hampton Roads both students and employers for 50 years. It has grown from 1 campus into a regional educational and economic force. TCC is the largest provider of higher education and workforce services in Hampton Roads, enrolling nearly 25,000 students in 2024-25. Founded in 1968 as a part of the Virginia Community College System, Tidewater Community College (TCC) services South Hampton Roads with 4 campuses in Chesapeake, Norfolk, Portsmouth, and Virginia Beach, 7 regional centers and 2 important cultural institutions. The college had 3,399 graduates in 2024-2025, 40 percent of whom pursued degrees that would let them transfer to 4-year institutions. Of South Hampton Roads residents enrolled in higher education 33% enrolled at TCC. TCC's institutional accreditation is affirmed through 2027 by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges. This position will provide a full range of custodial/housekeeping services for college facilities to include, but not limited to, trash removal, vacuuming, mopping, dusting, sweeping, floor stripping and waxing, carpet cleaning, window cleaning, black/white-board cleaning, etc. Provide room set-up/take-down assistance and light bulb replacement as assigned. Perform other cleaning tasks as assigned. Maintain and demonstrate good attendance habits. This position, designated as an essential position, must be able to report to work and fulfill responsibilities of the position in the event of college/campus closure due to weather or emergent conditions.

This position will:

• Provide cleaning services to the colleges buildings, to include, but not limited to, daily removal of trash, mopping, dusting and sweeping, vacuuming. Must assist in the set up and take down of special events if assigned.
• Comply with laws and procedures for storage and disposal of trash and waste.
• Be able to climb a six foot ladder and lift up to 50 lbs unaided.
• This position, designated as an essential position, must be able to report to work during inclement weather and assist in snow removal from entries and walkways and application of snow-melt when required.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Knowledge of custodial operations and industry standards.
• Working knowledge of the principles and practices of janitorial, custodial, housekeeping services, and sanitizing techniques.
• Ability to climb ladders without assistance.
• Ability to lift objects up to 50 lbs.
• Skills in using housekeeping equipment such as vacuum cleaner, buffers and scrubbing machine.
• Knowledge of safety procedures, particularly as they relate to equipment operation, chemical use, and trash/recycling.
