DATCP currently has an opening for a Recreational Program Technical Specialist position within the Division of Food and Recreational Safety.

This is a field-based position and routine statewide travel is required.

Qualifying candidates are not required to live in a county headquarter location. However, reimbursement for commuting to or from the employee's assigned headquarters is not provided (e.g., mileage, meals, parking, lodging, etc.). Routine travel within an assigned territory and throughout the state for assigned work and emergency response is required.

Remote Work Option: This position may have the ability to work remotely. An approved remote work agreement is required before an employee may work remotely. Approval of the employee's remote work agreement and work schedule will vary based on the operational needs of the Division. All DATCP employees who work remotely are required to live in Wisconsin.

Position Summary

This position's primary duties will be building, maintaining and providing recreational program technical expertise to the public, regulated industries, and staff along with training new and existing staff in the requirements of recreational programs. This position's duties will include maintaining a working knowledge of the various recreational programs. In addition, each member of the Recreational Technical team will be assigned a leadership role for one or several of the Recreational Programs as determined by management.

Salary Information

The classification of this position is Food Scientist - Advanced, which is in schedule-range 15-03 with a starting pay of $36.34 per hour up to $39.60 per hour based on qualifications.

This position is not represented by a collective bargaining unit. A 12-month probationary period is required. Pay for current state employees will be set in accordance with the State Compensation Plan at the time of hire.

Job Details

At DATCP, we strive to deliver efficient and effective programs and services to Wisconsin agriculture, consumers, and businesses. The Department has numerous on-the-job training (OJT) opportunities, unique to each Bureau.

These OJT opportunities include direct experience and practice through job shadowing of co-workers/supervisor, standard operating procedures and recreation and retail training manual, and job-specific training modules such as certified pool training, and certified pool operator.

Conditions of Employment:

DATCP does not sponsor work visas. Any appointment made will be contingent on the selected applicant being able to provide documentation of eligibility to work in the United States.

A criminal background check will be performed on the selected applicant prior to an offer of employment.

Possession of a valid driver's license or the ability to provide one's own transportation for work purposes, is required.

Travel throughout the state is required for approximately 70% of this position's duties. Occasional overnight stays will occur including the possibility of out-of-state travel.

Possess physical abilities to climb and work at elevated heights such as on catwalks.

Ability to stand, walk, bend, squat, and lift up to 20 lbs. Must have the ability to walk extensively, climb, and stand for long periods of time. Through use of sight and hearing, must be able observe physical surroundings.

Qualifications

Minimally qualified candidates will have each of the following:

  • A Wisconsin Registered Sanitarian (RS) or NEHA Registered Environmental Health Specialist (REHS)/Registered Sanitarian certification OR have the eligibility to obtain the Wisconsin Registered Sanitarian (RS) or NEHA Registered Environmental Health Specialist (REHS)/Registered Sanitarian certification within 18 months of hire
  • Experience using environmental health principles in a recreational setting (e.g., pools, lodging, recreational education/camps, campgrounds, bed and breakfast)

In addition to the minimum qualifications above, highly qualified candidates will have one or more of the following:
  • Experience working in a recreational program area in a regulatory environment
