Performs skilled Master level Plumbing work in the maintenance and repair of County buildings, grounds and facilities. Work involves installation, maintenance, and repair of plumbing systems. Occasionally performs semi-skilled work on electrical and mechanical equipment and performs a variety of maintenance and repair tasks requiring general knowledge of building trade skills. Work involves performing semi-skilled work in one or more building trades, such as: electrical, carpentry, and heating and air conditioning equipment. Incumbent must be available to respond to calls for service after normal working hours on a rotational basis. This position is considered an essential position which requires the individual to report to work during inclement and extreme weather conditions. Job responsibilities may include any of the following, depending on the incumbent's functional assignment. Performs skilled plumbing tasks including changing faucet washers, stems, seals, etc.; installs and repairs to various water and sanitary fixtures and related equipment; repairs water line leaks and breaks. Develops preventive maintenance program schedules and maintains up-to-date computerized records for plumbing systems. Maintains and repairs sewer systems to include septic tanks and grinder pumps and their associated components. Installs gas lines and irrigation systems components (lawn), injectors and injector pumps for sewer systems; assist with maintenance and repair of boilers, furnaces, and pumps. Estimates, procures and documents time and materials needed for completion of projects. Performs basic preventive maintenance work on heating and air conditioning systems, checking thermostats, couplers, fuses, belts, motors, etc.; assists in major heating and air conditioning repair and CIP projects. Installs tests and certifies back-flow prevention systems and related components.
Graduation from high school supplemented by vocational/technical training and possession of a Master Plumber's Certificate and 6 years of experience in the plumbing trade; or any equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. Registered by the Commonwealth of Virginia as a Master Plumber. Must obtain state certification in back-flow testing within six months of hire date. Possession of a valid driver's license issued by the Commonwealth of Virginia. This job is contingent upon successful completion of pre-employment checks to include background checks and DMV records checks.
Comprehensive knowledge of the common methods, tools, and equipment used in plumbing installation and repair work. Comprehensive knowledge of applicable plumbing codes. Thorough knowledge of OSHA standards and occupational hazards and safety precautions. Skill in performing highly skilled plumbing work. Ability to read and interpret blueprints, specifications, sketches, and drawings. Ability to plan for and estimate time and materials needed for various projects.
Must be physically able to operate a variety of equipment including plumbing tools, shovels, rakes, etc. Must be able to operate a motor vehicle. Must be able to bend and stoop for relatively long periods of time. Requires lifting of objects weighing between 50-75 pounds.
