The purpose of this job classification is to research various criminal justice databases, to include the Virginia Criminal Information Network, to follow-up and update property that has been entered by the Chesapeake Police Department. This job class will conduct research involving police reports and the various databases to help make a determination concern the disposition of property, and other police related activities.
* Review automated enforcement (speed) violations and authorize citations.
* Support the Special Operations Section by performing research in numerous computer databases.
* Provides customer service and responds to inquiries in person or by phone in assigned area.
* Customer contact and follow-up on PhotoSafe (automated enforcement) documents
* Handles different documentation such as incoming mail, email or correspondence.
* Enters, updates and/or edits data in computer system.
* Provide the City Attorney's Office with offense reports when requested for case review.
* Performs other related duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
VOCATIONAL/EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENT: Requires high school diploma or equivalent, completion of a DCJS certified law enforcement academy. Education concentration in Psychology, Criminal Justice, or Administration of Justice
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT: 2 or more years experience as a law enforcement officer
SPECIAL CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENSES: Retired or currently sworn law enforcement officer, VCIN/NCIC certified operator (may be obtained after hired)
Preferred Qualifications
The selected employee should have a current working knowledge of automated enforcement laws and ordinances.
