A $4,000 hiring bonus is being offered for this position. Hiring bonuses shall only be for new hires of original employment or reemployment as defined in Human Resources Policy No. 5.0.
$1,000 will be awarded in the first paycheck.
$1,250 will be awarded upon completion of the six (6) month interim performance evaluation with an overall rating of "Meets Expectations".
$1,750 will be awarded upon completion of the employee's one (1) year probationary period and a performance evaluation with an overall rating of "Meets Expectations".

The City of Virginia Beach Department of Human Services is seeking to hire a candidate who has experience providing case management services to adults with serious mental health and or substance use disorders in a Behavioral Health setting for our BH Case Management program.

Duties:

  • Provide lower-level case management services to Virginia Beach citizens who have a serious mental illness, substance use disorder, or co-occurring disorder.
  • Assist consumers with access to needed medical, psychiatric, mental health, substance use, social, educational, vocational services, and other supports essential to meeting basic needs and improve their quality of life.
  • Complete assessments, treatment planning, crisis planning, clinical intervention, consultation, supportive counseling, transition planning and other case management duties in a mental health, substance abuse setting in accordance with quality assurance and professional client standards.
  • Provide clients who have been admitted psychiatrically and/or medically hospital discharge planning.
  • May serve specialized populations and/or serve in specialized roles.
  • Complete clinical documentation and ensure all fling and submission of billing information are done accurately and within the required time frame required
  • Complete and final approve progress notes in the Electronic Health Record (EHR).

Minimum Requirements:

MINIMUMS: Requires a four (4) year degree in a human services field (such as psychology, behavioral or mental health, special education, social work) and one (1) year of experience providing the required knowledge, skills, and abilities associated with positions such as a Mental Health Counselor, Special Education Teacher or Social Worker OR any combination of education (above the high school level) and/or experience equivalent to five (5) years in fields utilizing the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Must have, or obtain, a current and valid drivers license.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Must be registered with the Virginia Board of Counseling as a QMHP. All employees may be expected to work hours in excess of their normally scheduled hours in response to short-term department needs and/or City-wide emergencies.

Preferences:

Experience providing Medicaid reimbursable services to adults with SMI/SUD.
Experience managing a caseload of 20+ adult individual with SMI/SUD disorders.
Experience providing community rehabilitative services such as mental health skill building and/or case management.
Experience in crisis intervention, de-escalation techniques and coordinating emergency psychiatric care.
Experience in assisting clients in accessing public health benefits, including Medicaid, SNAP, and disability income.
Experience in completing assessments, treatment plans, quarterly reviews and progress notes in an electronic health record.

Special Instructions:

Must be registered with the Virginia Board of Counseling as a QMHP.
