Job Overview

The Director, HR Strategic Partner (HRSP) serves as the lead HR Strategic Partner for Maryview Medical Center, Southampton Medical Center, and Market Shared Services in the Hampton Roads market. The partner ensures leadership awareness and a local change‑management approach to standard HR program delivery and initiatives throughout the year. The role coordinates HR Centers of Excellence (COEs) strategic solutions on client‑specific work, leading projects with impact ranging from $1–10 M to workforce and organizational design initiatives. The director works with leaders at all levels and mentors associate‑level HR strategic partners.

Essential Functions

  • Serve as HRSP for the assigned market, medical group, shared services, and innovations clients.
  • Act as a strategic HR advisor to the leadership team and partner with HR COEs on strategic solutions.
  • Drive outcomes and results, ensuring successful change approaches for the market and leadership teams.
  • Collaborate with COEs on turnover mitigation, retention work, workforce planning, and operating model development.
  • Lead system‑wide projects—creating organizational design, developing communication plans, and anticipating change‑management needs.
  • Manage associate/manager‑level HRSPs, if applicable, and lead other HR professionals on projects.
  • Partner with PMs and extractaries, meeting success metrics, SLAs, and experience results for HR components of work.
  • Build trust and strong relationships with leadership teams and represent the HR brand positively.

Employment Qualifications

  • Required Minimum Education: Bachelor's degree (Master's preferred).
  • Licensure/Certification Preferred: SHRM‑CP, SHRM‑SP.
  • Minimum 5+ years of HR experience with demonstrated progression, including knowledge of HR labor law, leave processes, FMLA, EEOC, Title VII, and compensation requirements.
  • Preferred 7+ years in business/healthcare experience with proven career progression.
