The City of Virginia Beach is seeking a motivated and service-oriented Employee Relations Human Resource Business Partner I to join our Employee Relations (ER) team. This is an exciting opportunity for an early-career HR professional who thrives in a dynamic, team-based environment and has a passion for resolving workplace challenges.
In this role, you will support the employee relations function by assisting with case management, performance and attendance counseling, policy interpretation, and workplace investigations. You will also collaborate closely with ER Business Partners and departmental leaders to provide consistent and thoughtful guidance aligned with City policy and legal compliance.
Duties will include, but not be limited to:
- Assist with ER case management, documentation, and compliance tracking.
- Serve as a resource to managers and employees on performance issues, coaching, and policy questions.
- Participate in employee relations investigations and assist in gathering facts and drafting documentation.
- Support the ADA interactive process and preparation of accommodation plans.
- Research and analyze employment issues, providing initial recommendations or referrals.
- Collaborate in developing and updating policies, guidance documents, and ER procedures.
- Assist in preparing reports and data for ER metrics and initiatives.
Ideal Candidate Qualifications:
- Strong foundational knowledge of HR laws and best practices (EEO, ADA, FMLA, etc.).
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to manage time effectively and handle sensitive information with discretion.
- Demonstrated commitment to public service and collaborative problem-solving.
