Introduction
Are you a collaborative leader with experience overseeing emergency telecommunications operations or managing public safety call center operations? The Prince William County Department of Public Safety Communications is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Assistant Director of Operations to join our team. The Department has multiple accreditations and certifications and is located in Virginia's second most populous County.

About This Role:

This role oversees 4 direct reports and 100+ personnel in total, which are the 24x7x365 operations of the public safety communications center. Responsibilities include ensuring adequate staffing and the management of personnel receiving and dispatching emergency and non-emergency calls for police and fire/rescue service. Other responsibilities include process improvement, conflict resolution, progressive discipline, budgeting, and identifying and implementing best practices and industry trends. Substantial amount of networking, both internal and with other county employees, as well as with outside jurisdictions and personnel is an integral part of this position. The ideal candidate must be flexible, approachable and compassionate and must work collaboratively with the leadership team.

Minimum Requirements:

The successful candidate must be agile and dynamic at all times in order to address a constantly changing environment in the public safety communications department. The candidate shall be punctual, reliable, and trustworthy, with excellent communications skills.

  • High school diploma or GED is required.
  • Minimum 8 years of full-time related experience, including supervisory experience is required.
  • Must successfully pass full background investigation to include polygraph, psychological evaluation, and drug test.

Preferences:

Preferred applicants should be knowledgeable in the following: Call Handling Equipment (CHE), Audio Recording Technology, Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD), Land mobile radio (LMR), Records Management Systems (RMS), Mobile Data Terminals (MDT), Department of Criminal Justice Services (DCJS), Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA), Emergency Medical Dispatch (EMD), National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC) and Virginia National Information Network (VCIN).

Work Schedule:

The normal schedule is Monday through Friday in 8-hour increments, but the ever changing and challenging dynamics in the communications center will demand short notice adjustments and flexibility with the work schedule.

Starting Salary Range:

$98,475.00 - $157,560.00
Prince William County Government offers medical plans with corresponding pharmacy and basic vision coverage, as well as dental plans and a separate vision plan.

Full-time and part-time Prince William County Government employees are eligible to participate in our plans; however, the level and cost of benefits depends on the classification of the position.
