Youth Mental Health Educator (RHT)
Members will participate in evidence-based mental health training and practice. Members will participate in a variety of enriching experiential and didactic learning opportunities which will facilitate their professional development. Members will have the opportunity to obtain mental health certifications that may provide many job opportunities within the mental health field in Virginia. Members serve approximately 20 hours/week over the course of nine months.
Member Duties : • 20 hours/week of in-person service/practicum experience in their community, human services coursework, and training resulting in a variety of certifications and badges. • 2 semester special topics class taught through GMU (paid for by Claude Moore Opportunities). • Participate in Sources of Strength 4-day intensive training • Potential service/practicum options include serving on a virtual emotional support line in English or Spanish, supporting a local Community Services Board in addressing community mental health needs, and serving at the protocol office at George Mason's Center for Community Mental Health. Additionally, members will be placed in local high schools to train youth and adults in suicide prevention awareness and will potentially support care coordination for high school students. School placements will include helping train school staff to implement SOS and serving with teen groups to help implement suicide prevention programming.
