The Role

Supervises, assigns, coordinates and evaluates semi-skilled and skilled trades personnel according to their skill, experience and job knowledge. Supervises and trains employees to improve quality and quantity of work performed. Recommends training to enhance skill and productivity of employees, and assists in development of training procedures. Breaks broad strategies down to practical action plans and ensures employees are trained to perform these plans. Responsible for complying with all technical aspects of the job including adherence to all drawings, procedures, etc. Responsible for manufacturing, installation, operation, testing, and process operations that have a significant financial impact on the company's performance. Supervises qualified trades staff; monitoring job and budget performance for all shifts.

Newport News Shipbuilding, a division of Huntington Ingalls Industries, is offering a $5,000 sign-on bonus to Foreman new hires. Job seekers who apply on qualifying requisitions are eligible for the sign-on bonus. The sign-on bonus is for all Foreman new hires, current Newport News Shipbuilding employees are eligible.

Must Have

  • BS/Apprentice OR High School and 6 years related Trade experience

Nice to Have

  • An Apprentice School O68 Metrology Technician graduate is preferred with a sound knowledge of the shipyard metrology trade.
  • Ability to supervise the work of others and communicate effectively in individual and group situations.
  • Responsible for the training and evaluation of 12-15 apprentices in a production environment.
  • Strong organizational skills with proficiencies in multitasking and scheduling.
  • Thorough technical knowledge of the trade in their area of responsibility and a solid educational base.
  • Ability to work a variable work schedule including overtime.
