Aircraft Mechanic I Location: Naval Station Norfolk, VA Contracting Organization: Commander Naval Air Forces Atlantic (CNAL) Naval Aviation Maintenance Center of Excellence (NAMCE) Clearance Required: Active Secret Clearance Compensation: $36.07/hour $5.36/hour Health & Welfare About the Role We are seeking a qualified Aircraft Mechanic I (Airframe Specialty) to support Organizational (O), Intermediate (I), and selected Depot (D)-Level maintenance for MH-53E and MH-60S aircraft at Naval Station Norfolk. This role supports CNAL/NAMCEs mission to maintain readiness and ensure the safe operation of Navy aircraft. Key Responsibilities Perform scheduled and unscheduled maintenance on MH-53E and MH-60S aircraft. Troubleshoot and repair airframe, landing gear, flight surfaces and controls, pneudraulic, engines, APU, ventilation, and heating systems. Repair and rebuild aircraft structures (wings, fuselage, rigging, surface controls, hydraulic units). Use hand tools, power tools, welding equipment, rivet guns, shears, drills, and sheet metal brakes to complete repairs. Perform aircraft inspections, corrosion control, preservation/de-preservation, and modifications. Document all maintenance via logs, records, forms, and electronic systems. Support technical programs, including Corrosion Prevention, Tire & Wheel Safety, Fuel Surveillance, Hydraulic Contamination Control, FOD Prevention, and Tool Control. Supervise aircraft towing and jacking as needed, ensuring safety compliance. Maintain aircraft, engines, and support equipment logbooks. Execute Navy-specific programs (NAMDRP, Plane Captain Qualification, ESD/EMI reporting, CTPL, Hazardous Material Control, Oil Analysis, Egress Systems, and more). Qualifications Experience: Combination of hands-on maintenance experience covering airframe structures, hydraulics, pneumatics, engines, electrical systems, and general mechanical maintenance. Ability to read, interpret, and apply technical manuals, service bulletins, and engineering data. Knowledge of FAA practices and standards (FAA license not required). Must be able to perform aircraft inspections, troubleshooting, adjustments, and component replacements with minimal supervision. Secret clearance (active) required.
