The City of Hampton's Parks, Recreation & Leisure Services Department is seeking a Therapeutic Recreational Counselor to support participants with disabilities in a variety of recreational programs. This role assists with activities as needed and as directed by program leaders and supervisors, helping ensure all participants can engage, enjoy, and thrive.

Minimum Requirements
- High school diploma or GED, preferably supplemented by specialized courses/training equivalent to the completion of three years of coursework at an accredited college or university majoring in therapeutic recreation, recreation or a related field of study.
- Requires a minimum of one (1) year of experience working with individuals with disabilities in a recreational, day care or camp setting or closely related experience.
- Must obtain Basic First Aid and CPR certifications within 90 days of hire.
- This position is safety sensitive and is subject to testing for alcohol and controlled substances in accordance with the City's current substance abuse policy.
- Must successfully pass a Child Protective Services Check and background checks related to this position.
Additional Requirements - Requires effective communication with internal and external customers.
- Requires shift work to include nights, weekends, and holidays.
- The incumbent may be considered "essential personnel" during City emergency situations or at the direction of the City Manager which may include long hours and unusual schedules.
