NSC Staffing is hiring a Dry Dock Mechanic Handyman - J4 to join our team in Norfolk, VA. This is a hands-on role in the drydock environment requiring advanced mechanical knowledge, the ability to work independently, and strong attention to safety and quality. Local candidates only. All shifts available.

Key Responsibilities:

• Perform drydock mechanical duties including block fabrication, diesel engine operations, and equipment monitoring.
• Conduct watch duties, respond to drydock alarms, and maintain operational readiness of drydock systems.
• Diagnose, repair, and install drydock equipment using technical manuals, diagrams, and hand tools.
• Ensure job site safety, compliance with hot work and WAF permits, and proper PPE use.
• Maintain a clean and safe work environment and complete assignments with minimal supervision.
• Interpret technical drawings and publications to complete repair tasks effectively.
• Navigate vessels and understand compartment designations.

Qualifications:

• Journeyperson 4 level experience with minimal supervision required.
• Strong knowledge of drydock operations, shipyard safety procedures, and mechanical systems.
• Proficient with tools, measuring instruments (micrometer, tachometer, dial indicator, caliper), and diagnostic equipment.
• Ability to read technical drawings and follow operational procedures.
• Excellent communication skills and understanding of PPE usage.
• Must have reliable transportation and be able to work aboard vessels, in confined spaces, and at heights.

Physical Requirements:

• Able to lift/carry up to 50 lbs., climb ladders, work in tanks and confined spaces.
• Standing, walking, kneeling, crawling, crouching, and operating equipment for extended periods.
• Visual and auditory acuity to perform mechanical tasks safely and effectively.

Work Conditions:

• Exposure to varying weather, heights, fumes, dust, vibration, and confined areas.
• Must be able to work evenings and weekends as needed.
• May require up to 10% travel.
• PPE and respirator use required.
• No security clearance required.

• Elevator access at primary worksite: Yes
