Position Title: Cafeteria Monitor
Reports to: Principal
Overtime Status: Non-Exempt
Pay Grade: 101

The position is responsible for monitoring and assisting students during lunch and helping maintain the cleanliness of the cafeteria.

Essential Duties:

• Manage students during meal service (behavior problems will be referred to the teacher).
• Communicate with students and staff positively and professionally, utilizing appropriate customer service and interpersonal skills.
• Circulate throughout the cafeteria or designated areas to assist students needing help.
• Assist with cafeteria cleanliness.
• Encourage good table manners.
• Monitor students using trash cans.
• Dismiss classes in an orderly manner at scheduled times.
• Model nondiscriminatory practices in all activities.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Job Specifications/Physical Requirements:

Ability to follow written and oral instructions. Desire to perform assigned duties diligently. Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with students, staff, parents, and the public. This role involves light work exerting up to 20 pounds occasionally and 10 pounds frequently, and some medium work exerting 50 pounds occasionally, with duties including stooping, kneeling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, and repetitive motions. Vocal communication and hearing are required for effective communication, and visual acuity is needed for data analysis and observation. The work environment includes inside and outside conditions, noise, and hazards.

Education and Experience:

High school diploma or equivalent and some experience working with children.
