CITY OF NORFOLK: Department of Public Works is currently seeking a Sweeper Operator I within the Division of Environmental Storm Water Management. Sweeper Operator I positions are responsible for operating heavy construction equipment such as street sweepers, dump trucks, vacuum trucks, and backhoes, and participating in the routine functions of an operational storm water infrastructure maintenance crew. The Operators main role is to prevent debris and pollutants from entering the stormwater system and waterways to help improve water quality throughout the City. They will also assist other parts of the Division by operating heavy equipment, especially during extreme weather events and emergencies. The Department of Public Works builds, maintains, and operates the physical facilities that support and enhance the lives of Norfolks citizens, businesses, and visitors, including the Citys Street Network, Traffic Management System, Storm Water System, Waste Management, and Recycling.
