Job DescriptionCTR Group is seeking a Manual Machinist - Journeyman Machinist for the Machine Shop of a Nationwide Manufacturing Company in the Newport News, VA arePay Range: $30 - $35 per Hour and Benefits:SUMMARY:We are seeking an experienced Manual Machinist / Journeyman Machinist to join our skilled team. In this role, you'll use conventional machine tools to repair, fabricate, and rebuild critical components like shafts, valves, flanges, and electric motors. You'll work from blueprints, repair specs, or part samples, using precision instruments and good judgment to deliver accurate, reliable parts every time.The Manual/Journeyman Machinist is responsible for, but not limited to, the following machining and mechanical tasks:Perform Machining and FabricationOperate manual machines including mills, lathes, grinders, and sawsMachine new and replacement parts for equipment based on drawings or part samplesDrill, tap, and modify parts to tight tolerancesCreate and modify fixtures or tooling for repeat workAchieve surface finishes appropriate for sealing or rotational assembliesMechanical Repair and AssemblyRebuild and repair electric motors (up to 100 HP), valves, air compressors, and pumpsReplace bearings, seals, and bushings on rotating componentsSet rotor clearances and align shaftsRepair or fabricate damaged or worn parts for reuseDiagnose and test pressure controls and mechanical assembliesInspection and QualityUse precision measuring tools (micrometers, calipers, indicators) to ensure accuracyInterpret and apply tolerances from blueprints or sample partsPerform visual and dimensional inspections for quality assuranceREQUIREMENTS:High school diploma or equivalent5+ years of manual machining or journeyman machinist experienceProficient in reading blueprints and mechanical drawingsSkilled in using measuring equipment such as micrometers, calipers, and dial indicatorsAbility to lift 50 lbs, stand, bend, twist, and kneel throughout the shiftMust be dependable, self-driven, and have a strong work ethicMust pass background check and comply with our drug-free workplace policyPreferred QualificationsTrade school certification or formal millwright/machinist apprenticeshipExperience with pump, boiler, or HVAC componentsWelding or fabricating skills (MIG, TIG, stick)Electrical/mechanical troubleshooting experienceCTR Group has been a leader in its industry for over 30 years and is rated highly on Google, Indeed and Facebook for being a great company to work for.
