Senior Construction Engineer

Description:

Join Planate Management Group (PMG), a Service-Disabled Veteran-Owned Small Business (SDVOSB), as a Senior Construction Engineer. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to significant infrastructure upgrades at the Columbia Veterans Affairs Medical Center. As part of our dedicated team, you will play a key role in enhancing healthcare facilities to support the missions of the US Department of Defense and federal agencies worldwide.

In this full-time position, you will oversee critical engineering aspects of healthcare infrastructure projects, ensuring quality and compliance at every stage.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Review engineering drawings and specifications throughout all design phases for accuracy and completeness.
  • Conduct constructability reviews of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) and structural systems designs.
  • Ensure engineering designs meet Government standards and project requirements.
  • Analyze shop drawings and assess the availability of labor and materials for engineered systems.
  • Validate Architect/Engineer (A/E) cost estimates for project components.
  • Monitor project budgets, including costs and projections related to construction.
  • Provide insights on engineering schedules, budgets, and project feasibility to the Contracting Officer's Representative (COR).
  • Advise on long-lead items for MEP systems.
  • Identify engineering conflicts or discrepancies in contract documents and work to resolve them.
  • Review change order requests, assessing impacts on scope, schedule, and costs.
  • Conduct daily inspections of engineering work to ensure compliance with contracts.
  • Monitor contractor compliance with labor standards and safety regulations.
  • Maintain accurate Project Tracking Reports (PTR) with timely updates.
  • Assist with procurement activities following Federal Acquisition Regulations.
  • Evaluate contractor pay applications against completed work.
  • Update master schedules monthly in coordination with General Contractors and A/Es.
  • Provide weekly status reports on engineering project aspects.
  • Document and report on testing and commissioning of building systems.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as required.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, or related field) from an accredited institution and at least 6 years of relevant experience (or 15 years of directly related experience in lieu of a degree).
  • A minimum of 3 years in construction management or engineering oversight.
  • A strong background in technical construction management and administration.
  • Experience with MEP systems in healthcare facilities preferred.
  • Proficient in reviewing technical drawings, specifications, and calculations.
  • Knowledge of building codes, safety regulations, and construction standards.
  • Ability to work full-time on-site, with potential evening hours (5pm-5am EDT).
  • Must complete 30-hour OSHA Safety Training within 60 days of hire.
  • Must be a lawful U.S. resident and eligible for employment (no visa sponsorship available).
