Position Overview:

The Hampton Sheriff's Office seeks a dedicated and vigilant individual to join our team as a Court Security Officer. As such, you will play a critical role in maintaining the safety and security of courtrooms, personnel, and members of the public within the Hampton judicial system.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Security Screening: Conduct thorough security screenings of individuals entering the courthouse, including using metal detectors, X-ray machines, and other screening equipment to detect prohibited items.
2. Crowd Control: Maintain order and control within courtrooms and courthouse premises, ensuring compliance with all court procedures and directives.
3. Patrol and Surveillance: Conduct regular patrols of courthouse facilities, monitoring for any suspicious activity or unauthorized access. Utilize surveillance systems to enhance security measures.
4. Emergency Response: Respond promptly to emergencies, including medical incidents, disturbances, or security threats. Take appropriate action to de-escalate situations and ensure the safety of all individuals present.
5. Collaboration: Coordinate with other law enforcement agencies, court personnel, and security staff to address security concerns and maintain a cohesive approach to courthouse security.
6. Report Writing: Prepare detailed reports documenting incidents, security breaches, and any actions taken during shifts. Maintain accurate records of security-related activities.
7. Customer Service: Provide courteous and professional assistance to court staff, visitors, and members of the public, helpfully addressing inquiries and concerns.
8. Training and Development: Participate in ongoing training sessions and skill development programs to enhance knowledge of security procedures, emergency response protocols, and relevant legal regulations.

Qualifications:

• High school diploma or equivalent. DCJS Certification is required
• Prior experience in law enforcement is highly desirable.
• Possession of valid state security officer certification/license.
• Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
• Ability to remain calm and composed under pressure, with solid decision-making skills.
• Proficiency in using security equipment and technology.
• Demonstrated knowledge of courtroom procedures and legal protocols.
• Physical fitness and ability to stand for extended periods and lift heavy objects if required.
